Springfield Case Study

The partnership between Tunley Environmental and Springfield Furniture Supplies came to fruition when they were looking for ways they could measure and improve the environmental impacts of their business operations. They have already implemented some sustainability initiatives, like solar panels, but wanted to understand on a deeper level what else could be done and how they can reduce their business operation emissions.

Springfield has taken a significant step towards sustainability by completing their baseline business carbon assessment for the 2023–2024 financial year. Conducted in line with ISO 14064-1 and the Greenhouse Gas Protocol, the assessment quantified their emissions at 273 t CO2e the equivalent of running 61 gasoline-powered vehicles for a year. In discussions about their carbon reduction strategy, Springfield outlined their commitment to achieving net zero by 2035. They have already installed solar panels on-site and are actively incorporating further initiatives, including biomass heating and transitioning to a green fleet as part of their Procurement Policy Note (PPN). Their net zero roadmap projects a 75% reduction in total emissions through these efforts, with any remaining carbon offset via a certified provider.

Tunley would like to thank Springfield Furniture Supplies for taking part in this case study, and it was another successful outcome for all involved. We hope to support them further on their sustainability journey.
