LEARN HOW WE WORK

  • An Embodied Carbon Assessment (ECA) will give you an understanding of the carbon footprint of your product and help demonstrate environmental sustainability to clients and stakeholders.
  • We will provide the quantification for the carbon emissions of the manufacturing of a product.
  • Three elements of data will be considered; material usage, transportation, and manufacturing processes.

Tunley Environmental has been great support through our carbon assessments. Tunley completed an embodied carbon report on one of our products, we used the embodied carbon report and submitted to MAKE UK sustainability regional awards and won for our region. Great to be working with Tunley and the team and look forward to reaching our goal of net zero which I know we can with the support and expertise of the team.”

HSQE Manager | PB Design

We're creating an action map for future reductions on where we want to be. I would fully recommend Tunley Environmental, with the carbon industry at the moment being a huge focus point. And Tunley Environmental are experts at what they do."

Thomas Ashworth

HSQE Manager | Extrudakerb

We used Tunley Environmental to help us with out carbon reduction targets, they conducted an embedded carbon report for one of our key ranges and we are now exploring next steps. I would highly recommend them professional, helpful a great company to work with”

Kieron King

Quality Manager | Inpress

From start to finish the whole team have excelled in communication and support. They made the entire process seemless, and nothing was too much for them. This is my first full experience completing a carbon assessment, and I couldn't have asked for a better company to complete this with.”

Rebecca Druce

SQE Manager | Spacecare

We found all of the Tunley Environmental representatives to be extremely friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. They provided a high standard of service with plenty of advice and support, including regular meetings to update on progress and present findings. We look forward to working with Tunley Environmental again on future projects.”

The Assessment Details

WHAT HAPPENS IN AN ECA?

In this assessment, the carbon emissions associated with the entire life cycle of a product or building are calculated and evaluated. This assessment takes into account the carbon emissions generated at various stages of the products life, including the extraction and processing of raw materials, transportation and manufacturing. This is also referred to as 'Cradle to Gate', as shown in the illustration here.

Embodied Carbon Assessments (ECAs) play a crucial role in identifying opportunities for carbon reduction initiatives. They help organisations understand and minimize their carbon emissions associated with their products contributing to efforts to mitigate climate change.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

WHAT IS AN EMBODIED CARBON ASSESSMENT?

An Embodied Carbon Assessment (ECA) is a method used to measure and quantify the total greenhouse gas emissions associated with the raw material production, transportation, and manufacturing/construction of a product or a building over its entire lifetime. The assessment takes into account the initial stages (Cradle-to-Gate) of a product or building’s lifecycle.

WHY DO I NEED AN EMBODIED CARBON ASSESSMENT?

You may need an Embodied Carbon Assessment for several reasons, depending on your role and goals within a project or organisation. An ECA is a valuable tool for understanding, managing, and reducing the carbon footprint of products and buildings. Whether you’re motivated by sustainability, compliance, cost savings, or market competitiveness, conducting this assessment can help you make informed decisions and contribute to a more sustainable and low-carbon future.

WHAT IS THE PROCESS OF AN ECA?

An Embodied Carbon Assessment involves a systematic process to quantify and evaluate the carbon emissions associated with a product, building, or project over the lifecycle stages considered. A general overview of what steps could be involved are: Define scope and objectives, inventory data collection, emissions calculation, data normalization, impact assessment, sensitivity analysis, reporting and communication, recommendations and strategies, implementation, monitoring and verification, documentation and certification, and continuous development.

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF AN ECA?

This assessment will help you accurately quantify the carbon footprint of your products and identify areas for improvement.

Cost: By increasing efficiency and reducing emissions during production will reduce your environmental impact and save costs

Savings: More sustainability-conscious and implementation of green sources saves more than just money.

Openness: Comprehensive analysis of the carbon footprint of your product and factoring in all Greenhouse Gases emitted in production.

Opportunity: Opening the door to new opportunities, in turn reducing your environmental impact.
